Right-Wingers & Christians Aren’t Terror Threats

On July 16, 2026, the White House website posted “Trump Administration Unleashes Global Campaign to Crush Radical Left Terrorism.” This received little notice, probably because the same night President Trump addressed the nation and focused on alleged Chinese interference in the 2020 US presidential election (an allegation which he has since somewhat walked back). But the counter-terrorism statement is noteworthy — striking, even — and deserves more attention. “Under the leadership of Donald J. Trump, far-left extremism will be treated with the same seriousness and ferocity the world has long reserved for jihadist terrorism.”
Some context: the two most recent Democrat administrations, particularly the Biden one, acted as if left-wing terrorism didn’t exist (while also downplaying the Islamic kind). As Secretary of State Marco Rubio put it, “our counterterrorism doctrine has had a blind spot when it comes to extremist violence from the political left.”
Instead, Biden and the national security apparatus under his control kept trying to convince Americans that “right-wing violence,” as allegedly perpetrated by “white supremacists,” is the most dangerous brand of terrorism. At least domestically. Of course, since no government entity keeps a list of domestic terrorist groups (or at least has one it will make public), comparable to the State Department’s Foreign Terrorist organization (FTO) one, it was rather easy for Biden & Co. to claim that nebulous “white/right-wing” malcontents were hiding at every NASCAR event, PTA meeting, and, in the guise of “semi-fascists,” MAGA rally. These contentions were, to be charitable, utter rubbish — as I wrote about in 14 separate articles from 2019 t0 2025.

While there is no empirical list by which to analyze domestic terrorism, we do have the aforementioned State Department one that covers foreign groups. I went through the latest iteration thereof (dated July 16, 2026) with a fine-tooth comb, and what I found follows. (The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has a nice site that gives descriptions of each group, as well as shows their logos.)
There are 99 groups in toto:
61 are Muslim (not “Islamist”)
19 are drug cartels (which I’ll call “Medellinistas,” after the original one)
11 are far left
6 are nationalist
2 are “other” (Haitian).
None — zero, zip, nada — are “right-wing.” Nor are any Christian.
Of the Islamic groups, 84% are Sunni, 16% Shi`i. All are non-state actors, with one exception: the Iranian Republican Guard Corps (the ayatollahs’ Praetorian Guard and special forces). The most likely location for terrorists is — of course — the Middle East, followed by South Asia, Africa, then Latin America.
However, eight organizations are in North America — that is, if you count Mexico, with six. Interestingly, the FTO now lists two terrorist gangs in Los Angeles: MS-13 and Barrio 18. There’s even a cartel calling itself “Los Viagras” — from a type of hair gel, not the popular aphrodisiac. (Although they are allegedly hard to kill.) Iraq and Mexico are tied as the biggest terrorist havens, just ahead of Pakistan, thanks to the second Trump administration adding cartels to the list. This recent inclusion of criminal drug syndicates is also why the percentage of jihadist groups has dropped to just over 60 per cent — still far and away the most prevalent, however.
There are no right-wing groups on the FTO list. Nor are there any Christian groups. (There are two Irish ones: the Continuity Irish Republican Army (IRA) and the New IRA. But both of those are Irish nationalist, not Catholic, in ideology.) Now before you chalk this up to Trump Administration biases, let me assure you that the majority of this list is the same as it was under the Biden, first Trump, and both Obama administrations. (I know, because I’ve been looking at the FTO list periodically for years.) The biggest change is, as noted earlier, that Trump’s State Department has added drug cartels to the terrorism category.
Despite the White House’s bragging about going after “Radical Left Terrorism,” however, there are only 11 Marxist-Anarchist groups listed. Just one is Antifa: Antifa Ost (aka Hammerbande), a German affiliate. Most are standard-issue pseudo-Marxist groups that have been on the list for some time, such as the PKK (Turkey) or Shining Path (Peru). The others: the Informal Anarchist Federation/International Revolutionary Front (Italy); Armed Proletarian Justice, Revolutionary Class Self-Defense, and Revolutionary Struggle (Greece); Segunda Marquetalia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia; the Communist Party of the Philippines: and the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party (Turkey).
What about delisting groups? There is a page of all 20 stricken from the list, going back to 1999, with dates of removal. Trump, as both POTUS 45 and 47, is responsible for exactly two of those: al-Nusrah Front/Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the current President of Syria’s former organization and, back in 2017, the Abu Nidal group (a more violent PLO offshoot). Biden removed seven of them; Obama, seven; and Bush II, four. Groups are taken off if they cease to operate or to exist at all (whether by being destroyed, coopted, or—rarely, but possible—incorporated into a government, as was HTS).
Yes, it’s about time that an American administration has acknowledged political violence has a left wing, and that it is actually much larger than the kind on the right. But Marxists don’t kill so much as they attack property — unless one posits “transgender” shooters on the Left, rather than mentally ill. The death toll from Muslims and Medellinistas is far greater. From 1979 to 2024, Islamic terrorists killed almost 250,000 people, worldwide, in almost 67,000 attacks. Medellinistas kill fewer kinetically, but the drugs they profit from kill multitudes, in America and elsewhere. Individual Marxists may lob Molotov cocktails, but en masse they don’t hold a candle to Muslims or Medellinistas, violence-wise. (Remember, we are talking about terrorism, not political takeover. I fully realize the domestic problem posed by the surge of Marxist socialists in America.)
So the Trump Administration would be wise, in its own words, to treat “far-left extremism” with “seriousness,” but maybe reserve its “ferocity” for the far more lethal enemies.

When a citizenry observes that it's elected representatives have abandoned their interests in favor of their own or those who have paid them, the citizenry tends to get angry and discusses ways with which to correct this "problem". During Obama's third term with Obiden as the public face, this is exactly what happened so of course the government will turn its attention to those unhappy with what they are doing and label them as a threat. This is what I believe was going on then.
As far as muslims are concerned, Thomas Jefferson determined that islam was a threat to our form of government and our majority religion. This was not because he was biased or bigoted. He examined the ideology and its core values, observed the behavior expressed by muslims overseas and drew a logical and correct conclusion - they are the enemy to us. Importing muslims into the US was a terrible and probably an irreversible error and as time unfolds the behavior of muslims and the incompatibility of their beliefs with ours will lead to violence. It's just too bad that those who were instrumental in allowing this to happen won't be the victims of this violence because they should be.
