Let’s set the scene: NBC News’ Steve Kornacki is covering election night results in the Democrat primary for the upcoming race for governor of Wisconsin.
That’s a big deal. After all, Kornacki is NBC’s Chief Data Analyst for our elections — such a fancy title! And that means: he’s gotta always reassure us that the data is real and the elections are legitimate. (We are talking about reality here — not Trumpian conspiracy theories!) And that’s when Milwaukee County officials announce late in the evening that a “tabulation error” in the election data has magically happened — and that five of the nine USB sticks with absentee ballot results don’t contain actual vote totals but only audit logs.
What does that mean? It means that Milwaukee will need another two or three hours to “recount” the votes of course.
