It sounds like you didn't read the article.

Shellenberger didn't do his own work. He took someone else's work and claimed it was his and then won journalism awards for it. If you don't understand how that would hurt the fight against government censorship then you have bigger issues related to ethics.

Why is he my ally? Because you think I want left-wing shapeshifters to take credit for the work of right-wing journalists?

It's time to stop sniffing glue, John.

Great response. I’ve always disagreed with people who say well go soft on this person cuz look at all the good things they’ve done. Every one should be held accountable for their actions including ppl that have done “good things.”

02/07/24: Apparently, Emerald has gotten the attention of all of The Friends of Shellenberger, which explains the above post.

Zero background as a journalist; magically transformed into an "expert."

[Correction: See below for the guidance that the university in question is the "University of Austin," NOT the University of Texas-Austin (the opinion stated about UT-A itself remains unchanged). This gets better, doesn't it? Someone with zero credentials has been drafted by a university whose credentials are purely theoretical, seeing as how their inaugural classes do not commence until October 2024, eight months from the present date.]

Mr. S is then greeted with open arms by the mega-Woke University of Texas, Austin (blue city hellhole), providing him with even better "credentials" for someone who had done nothing to earn them, other than to "testify" as a fake "expert."

That all this can occur and be explained away in such total innocence and splendor suggests that the script was lifted from the fairy tales found in children's books (we must stop plagiarizing Hillary Clinton's oeuvre!).

--- In passing, we should note that being A Friend of The Democrats has done absolutely nothing to shield Matt Taibbi, after he wised up upon finally seeing how the traitors in his formerly beloved party have been and are continuing to destroy the United States for their own personal profit and political gain.

Matt's former allies no doubt have turned on him like infuriated eunuchs in a violated harem, which is basically what the U.S. Government and Big Tech amounts to.

He's earned the right to star in the film, "Darkness At Noon" (the remake of which somehow has failed to interest the Disney Wokeporation)

--- Finally, Emerald has done something that almost all journalists fail to do because they have almost no idea as to what they are doing.

She has provided THE FACES of the people involved, especially the ones that have been flying under the radar, by providing the photos of the members of the Congressional committee discussed above.

Thank you.

people change.

Russel Brand, Joe Rogan, people who the left adored, changed their ways and now they are vilified by the left.

I understand the need to check everyone's creds; but people do change.

By the way, Mollie Hemingway spoke to the committee today.

she was definitely a target of censorship

Some people change, some people change to advance their personal agenda which in the case of Shellenberger may be more self-promotion.

I think you miss the point of this article.

"He's a Democrat" ... Well, I recall that it was Communist Party member Mikhail Gorbachev who triggered the chain reaction leading to the fall the Soviet Union, just as exile Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and other rebels earlier planted seeds. Gorbachev accepted all these stages even as he was surprised and dismayed by them, all the way to the point when his resignation finally dissolved the state itself.

There's also this to note from CJ Hopkins, who describes his excommunication from a Shellenberger effort:

https://cjhopkins.substack.com/p/mr-mikes-mondo-imbroglio-or-how-not?utm_source=profile&utm_medium=reader2

CJ both has skin in the game in other ways (see his recent posts) and rails against limited hangouts. Unless, of course, this limited hangout rabbit hole is getting quite beyond me.

Expand full comment

I am a fan of CJ’s courage, intellect, and writing skills. It seems his comments here on MS can be boiled down to: a good hearted, sincere man with some micromanagement issues when it comes to The Westminister Declaration? That doesn’t make MS a CIA stooge.

Expand full comment

Agreed. But it doesn't make him *not* a CIA stooge, either. IMO, what we have are more data points, and (as with everything) we should, as often as needed, execute a reckoning. Truth is never settled, but it can reach from time to time the tipping point of "enough".

Have you ever heard Shellenberger speak? Have you read any of his work? Please, just watch the first 10 minutes, then form an opinion based on some primary evidence:

https://youtu.be/Ey7iWsDYnJ8?si=CEk2zeU3CsS8cUTf

Expand full comment

Yes, Shellenberger's positions on censorship and the corruption of media are essentially my own, and Hopkins' as well. That's not Hopkins' complaint here:

"The irony is, when you’re 'building a movement,' when you know you are succeeding is when you lose control of it, when the movement doesn’t need you to 'lead' it, when it starts moving in directions you never imagined and starts doing things you never intended. But you can’t get there if you suffocate it in its infancy, if you are so obsessed with maintaining control that you snuff out every idea and impulse that doesn’t conform to your vision of it."

Expand full comment

Again, Shellenberger is fighting the good fight here, CJ supports his directional and sincere efforts. CJ’s issue is with MS’s style in managing chaos, always a difficult task, especially with many independent minded participants.

Great article, well written, informative. Thanks for posting that.

It's very likely this article is not intended to cast aspersions on Michael Shellenberger, but rather a knock on the Republicans twerps on the committee, people like Jim Jordan, who's as gutless as most Republicans. It's a question about why there were no conservatives to share their stories of oppression and censorship, instead we get two avowed Democrats who have been aggrieved. Somewhere I hear the term fairness being bandied about, yes?

Emerald and her titanium balls nailed it again.

I saw through Jim Jordan about 18 months ago - when all he kept doing was "tweeting" (whining) about the Dems on various issues from J6 to C19. Talk, talk, talk, post, post, post.

But wait? Aren't you in Congress, Jim? This means you have the power to do something about this. Oh, but you DON'T. You NEVER do anything of substance to take down the Dems and their criminal behavior! Just like most of the rest of the Republicans, even those who claim to be *real conservatives* have no spine, no balls and no convictions.

I'm done with you all. Burn the whole Congress to the ground so we can start over.

Shellenberger CENSORED! on FB Twitter & Forbes === ‘On behalf of environmentalists everywhere, I would like to formally apologise for the climate scare we created over the last 30 years’, he wrote. ‘Climate change is happening. It’s just not the end of the world. It’s not even our most serious environmental problem.’

Shellenberger’s apology was initially published in Forbes, where he is a regular contributor on energy and environmental matters. But on the same day, Forbes censored the article without explanation. https://www.spiked-online.com/2020/06/30/down-with-eco-censorship/

Second: winning journalism awards for the work of someone else is morally and intellectually bankrupt.

I fear that you're a little hurt that you've been duped by Shellenberger.

My wife would say the same thing, while her points are accusing me of being unfaithful. I ask her to find ANY evidence to PROVE her points, and she has none. (because I'm not) Just accusations, assumptions and theories because she's wrestling with... I dunno.

But I'm tired of the accusations. She lives with them in her head, and I have to deal with them through empty accusations. You've raised questions, but one of the worst journalistic practices is to inject doubt through questions.

I ask you to do MORE to prove your allegations that you're projecting rather than to leave empty assumptions. You're asking US to prove an unproveable point.

Maybe there IS something to support your implied accusations about someone who seems to be in a bunch of areas, and showing up with expert witness testimony. He has a big rolodex, I'm sure.

This is your platform, so if you want to judge “journalists” based on years of service or degree of persecution, be my guest. I prefer to judge “journalists” based on the merits and effectiveness of their communications. It’s hard to debate your points when they are mostly speculations about Shellenberger being insincere or inauthentic. He’s authored two compelling books, and written and spoken broadly using data, experience, and logic to take positions that I think you mostly agree with. What’s the beef? What award has he accepted for work he didn’t do?

What’s getting them anxious at the moment I speculate is that the GOP base is sick of them and their tough talk/no action posturing and isn’t coughing up money for their bullshit any more. Too many people who have been shocked by truth and are at some stage in the process of grasping the massive lying of Democrats are being attacked as “controlled opposition.” That is an unfair and extremely damaging accusation.

I don’t know enough about Michael Shellenberger to have an opinion about him. I thought he’d been a journalist longer than five or six years. He wrote San Fransicko, or something like that, can’t think, and at least one other book that I know of. But I’ve never done a deep dive into his background, and it is odd that he should suddenly be an expert on censorship.

I watched the early Congressional hearings; one of which involved Shellenberger. I remember wondering who he was (I have been banned from Twitter since before the Twitter Files broke) at the time, but I lost the thought under the weight of the testimony regarding government censorship and Big Tech compliance. I'm not saying he's the enemy - yet, but he bears watching as he has the necessary malleability to be a spook and how long will he go on being a spook before he stabs us in the back for the "good of humanity?"

Shellenberger is a classical liberal, not a crazy Leftist. He has sharply criticized failed California Democrat homeless/drug policies, crazy climate alarmism (hence the strong support for nuclear), and was trusted enough by Musk to help him sort through and identify Deep State censorship. Your slings and arrows would be much better targeted at our real enemies.

Agree. I love Emerald but I’m afraid Shellenberger just isn’t the bogeyman she suggests; he’s been doing yeoman’s work exposing government and big tech censorship efforts in the U.S., Ireland, and elsewhere. There’s a reason Elon trusted him with the Twitter files. His book Apocalypse Never was a refreshing take from an environmentalist willing to condemn the climate alarmism as harmful, even if I didn’t agree with everything he wrote.
