Be careful of ageism. I see a lot of that tendency from many younger writers with different political perspectives. I too once yelled at older drivers: “Get out of the way, Cutip!” and kidded tired friends of needing Ensure. Or Depends. Or of having a stroke if they misspoke. Children have made fun of the aging process forever. That being said, I think of Victor Davis Hanson, Thomas Sowell, Charles Murray and our President Trump, and try to find more worthwhile aspects to drag when mocking an opponent. There are usually pretty obvious effups I can chortle over besides gray hair. That being said, no one disagrees with this article unless they are a thumb-sucking Millenial who writes on Medium with crayons while whining about equity and his/her/its annoying, rayyyyysist grandparents.

All -isms are cover for some sort of neurosis. Old people ARE different than young. Boys ARE different than girls. People bound to their ethnicity ARE different than those who aren't. The -isms are just natural situational awareness, which some choose to ignore, often to their own detriment or jeopardy. Differences are often a threat.

The problem with ageism is the attitudes and capabilities of old folks varies with how much longer they think they have. Their problems aren't due to age, but outlook. People with nothing to lose become jerks. Those expecting to be around a while longer continue to participate in society.

There are people alive today who will never die. Many will last far beyond 100. Our perceptions of age are shifting fast.

Lot to unpack here. Many of your sentences are devoted to describing what used to simply be called stereotyping. Stereotyping is a natural function of the human brain, of any age, to categorize “situational awareness” of “others” in order to decide fight or flight. Elder mockery is expressed colloquially as “ageism” without any deep dive into psychological neuroticism of the user being necessary. My comment is based on my training that general, gratuitous assertions never persuade anyone and can make a writer look lazy and petty whatever their beliefs, predilections, race, age, gender or, in your words, neurosis. Someone’s shifting perceptions of it don’t change the fact that commenting on someone’s age, without knowing them, to try and prove their incompetence is a dangerous path leading a writer away from credibility.

Stereotypes exist because they're usually true. Prejudice based on stereotypes is often incorrect and therefore unproductive, but assumptions are the most rational starting point. Those who don't consider stereotypes are naive at best, all too often they're victims. If you're confronted by a vicious dog it would be foolish to assume he just wants a hug. If you're confronted by a old person acting like stereotypical old people, you can safely treat them like old people. Emerald's characterization of CBS viewers is consistent with their ratings demographics and with their submissive nature. You're very generous to defend them, but Emerald's description matches most geezers I know. The exceptions are a blessing, but they're unfortunately rare.

I'm still trying to figure out what the hell this person is talking about, or the point they are trying to make about this article.

The thing that makes the ageism "OK" is the target of Emerald's commentary. Rather, and Woodward, countless others, have been such condescending, pompous, lying actors for so long with impunity, it's a little bit nice to see someone tell them how "human" they really are. Maybe not my style, but can you sincerely say that guys like Rather and Woodward don't deserve some cosmic payback for the havoc they created in their careers of pretense of being serious journalists??

Your description of a CBS News viewer is pure gold.

I love it Emerald, hold nothing back. This is exactly what needs to happen to the activist journalists. Expose them all and call them out publicly.

Supposedly with age comes wisdom. Some, however, remain forever hopeless as 16-year-olds in an aging body. The segment with Mike Lindell was enjoyable. No, I am unaware of Robert Costa and don't feel I have missed much after viewing the attribution Mike accorded the smiling, clueless Costa as a traitor. I laud Mike for his guts and unabashedly calling things as he sees them! Way to go! Thanks for your report, Emerald.

Recently came across your podcast with Dinesh on "Institutional Rot in the Conservative Movement". Looking forward to a continuation of that conversation, These Lincoln Project / Bulwark type scum who love money more than they love this Country need to be exposed for the SCOUNDRELS they are.

Someone else commented here about the attitude of younger writers. I think what we are seeing is a bit of a pushback against PC speech control. Greg Gutfeld is an example of a

funny guy refusing to be PC. Other TV shows as well, like PSYCH, exhibit some real over the top dismissal of PC. So, seniors are gonna have to deal with it. It's here to stay, it seems. I thought Emerald's scathing commentary on was wickedly funny, and to the point. And who deserves it more than the MSM??? Emerald has the potential of becoming feminine version of PJ O'Rourke.

Ridicule is standard practice for the left. Read "Rules for Radicals" for explanation. Question for rational people is whether copying the tactics of your adversary is the best defense. Crowd venues like CPAC aren't conducive to rational action, but I've found rational responses usually work better. Sometimes it helps to increase the enthusiasm of that rational response.
